Ralph C. Wells passed away at home in the company of his loving family on Saturday, March 16th. He was 90. Born and raised in East Boston, he was the son of the late Ralph C. and Margaret (Hyde) Wells.
Ralph served in the United States Army and was a combat veteran of the Korean War. Among his many medals and distinctions, he earned the Combat Infantry Badge, five Bronze Stars for his Korean Service Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal for his service in Japan. After his service in the military, Ralph returned home and soon embarked on a long career with the United States Post Office where he held various supervisory positions at South Postal Annex. Ralph and his beloved wife Grace settled in Medford in 1955 where they raised their three children. Trained for winter and mountain warfare, Ralph considered skiing lessons a great fringe benefit of his military service. He skied throughout his life and taught his children during their many winter ski trips. Ralph loved to golf and up until a couple years ago, he was out golfing a several days a week. He retired while still in his fifties. To keep busy, he became a student of the stock market and did quite well as a day trader. Ralph was devoted to and proud of his family. He was also a good friend and neighbor who could always be depended on for his kindness and wisdom.
The beloved husband of the late Grace (McMakin) Wells, Ralph was a devoted father to Judith “Judy” Wells of Medford, Ralph Wells and his wife Margaret of Burlington, and Richard Wells and his wife Donna of Chester, NH. He was a loving grandfather to Richard, Ryan and Erin as well as a loving great-grandfather to Mason. He was predeceased by his brother Daniel Viveiros.
