Jeffrey H. Thayer, 57

Dateline: North Adams, MA

Jeffrey H. Thayer, age 57, of North Adams, formerly of Mansfield, passed away unexpectedly at home on Thursday, March 14, 2024.

Born in Attleboro, MA on June 30, 1966, he was a loving son of the late Richard W. Thayer and Roberta E. (Willis) DeStefano.

Jeff grew up in Mansfield and was a graduate pf Mansfield High School. He loved his country and was extremely proud of serving overseas in the United States Marine Corps. Following four years in the Marine’s, he was honorably discharged on September 18, 1988 with the rank of Corporal. While in the Marine Corps, Corporal Thayer was the recipient of three Rifle Expert Badge Awards.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Jeff spent the majority of his working career as an electrician. He loved his family very much and was a loyal friend to all who knew him. Jeff was an avid motorcyclist, enjoyed the great outdoors, which included hunting and fishing, and collecting guns and coins. He had made his home in North Adams for over twenty years.


He was the devoted father of Cyrena A. Maxwell and her husband Colby of Newnan, Georgia, Savannah L. Thayer of Amsterdam, New York and Jackson J. Thayer of North Adams. He was the cherished grandfather of Alaina, Roman, Grady, Theodore and Knox. He was the dear brother of Nancy S. Thayer of Mansfield and Gale K. Cummings and her husband Bruce of Norton. He is also survived by his loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, March 22nd from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield.

His funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 23rd at 11:00 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home. Burial, along with military honors will follow at the Spring Brook Cemetery in Mansfield.
