Richard P. Bostwick, 88, of Wellesley, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2024 following an extended illness. Richard was the beloved husband of Cynthia J. (Pratt) Bostwick whom he was happily married to for 63 years. Richard leaves his daughter Elle C. Ryan who was the “Apple of his Eye” and her husband John S. Ryan of Marlborough. Richard also leaves two grandchildren; Chris Richard Ryan and John Stephen Ryan III. Richard was born and raised in Dorchester, the son of the late Charles A. Bostwick and the late Mildred E. (Farrington) Bostwick. Richard had three siblings, the late Edythe Sullivan, the late Charles Bostwick Jr. and the late Claire Bostwick.
Richard served his country in the Korean War in the Air Force based in Guam. After the war, Richard attended Wentworth Institute in Boston and began his career at Polaroid in Waltham and later at Hologic. Richard had many hobbies and interests including cycling, collecting stamps and rare coins as well as playing cribbage. Richard was an avid reader of history and biography novels and had an extensive library of books that he shared with his family and friends. Richard was a Master Mason and served as head of the Wellesley Masonic Lodge in 1984. Richard and Cynthia enjoyed traveling abroad to countries such as Switzerland, Germany, Russia and the Middle East and Richard video recorded their trips for the family to enjoy.
Visiting Hours will be on Sunday, March 17 between 3-5 PM at the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St., (Rt.16) Wellesley. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 18 at 11 AM at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 79 Denton Rd., Wellesley followed by interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Wellesley. Donations in Richard’s memory may be made to Friends of Wellesley Council on Aging, P.O Box 812422, Wellesley MA 02482.
