WEBSTER – Mary E. (Bicknell) Goodney, 81, died Sunday, March 10, 2024 at home with her loving family at her side. Mary is predeceased by her husband Francis E. Goodney of 30 years.

She leaves 4 children, Robert J. “Bob” Young of Worcester, Christopher F. Goodney of Leicester, Kimberly M. Adams and her husband Phillip, and Keri Salvaggio and her husband Michael, all of Webster; 15 grandchildren, Kirsten, Catherine, Bobby, Jr. and Jack Young, Christopher, Jr. and his partner Heather, Tyler and his partner Callie and Cameron Goodney, Mackenzie and her partner Nick, Cody and his partner Bella, Kortnie and Cole Adams, Amanda Burke and her husband Mike, Kayla Wilson, Cassie Wilson and Brady Marcoux; 10 great-grandchildren, Ava, Bryson, Aiden, Nathaniel, Luca, Noella, Miah, Kaden, Eva and Kade; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother John Bicknell.

She was born on June 17, 1942 in Worcester and raised there, the daughter of Frank and Mary “Eleanor” (Power) Bicknell and graduated from Saint Peter High School in 1960. She was awarded a certificate from Salter Secretarial School. She lived in Spencer and Oxford before moving to Webster in 1999.

Mrs. Goodney was a customer service clerk at the former Zayre Department Store and then at the Ames Department Store, retiring in 2000. She then worked at her daughter’s “Circle of Friends Day Care” as an assistant provider for 17 years.

Mary was known for her vibrant personality. Her children and grandchildren found joy in teasing her. Mary was also known to many as Mom, Grandma Mary, Mema, Mama Goods, Anna and Miss Mary. She enjoyed life to the fullest and loved debating politics, and was known as people’s “favorite Democrat”. When Francis was alive, she enjoyed camping and dancing at Indian Ranch on Sundays with friends. A self-proclaimed food connoisseur, she enjoyed her Svedka and soda, wintergreen lifesavers and her vape where she would blow smoke rings.

Her family was her life and her greatest joy was when they were all together. No matter what they did, good or bad she would pray for them and always find the positive. She spent the last 27 years of her life at sporting events and activities her grandchildren participated in, cheering them on. She was truly their biggest fan. She enjoyed watching Boston sports with her family, especially the Patriots. She will be greatly missed by many; her legacy will live on, and her love for turtlenecks will always be remembered.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 PM on Sunday, March 24, in Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street with a prayer service at 3:00 PM. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, March 30 from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at her son Christopher’s club “Rascals,” 70 James Street, Worcester.
