DUDLEY – Irene V. (Rogala) Augustyn died Monday, March 11, 2024 in the presence of her family. Her husband of 51 years, John B. Augustyn, died in 2002.
She leaves a daughter, Maria E. Seavey and her husband Martin of Venice, FL; 5 granddaughters, Kristin Plaza, Marissa Bachand, Kimberly King and her husband Brandon, Kathryn King and Lauren Seavey; 3 great-grandsons, Griffin and Reid Bachand and Weston King; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter Marlene J. Plaza in 2022 and by her brothers Edward, Francis, Bernard and Frederick Rogala.
She was born on November 21, 1928 in Webster to Michael and Louise (Bryl) Rogala and graduated from Bartlett High School in 1946. She then studied at Worcester Girls Trade and at Quinsigamond Community College, both in Worcester. She lived in Dudley all her life.
Mrs. Augustyn was a patient care nurse at Hubbard Regional Hospital in Webster for 12 years and then at Harrington Memorial Hospital in Southbridge for 20 years, retiring in 1995. She and her husband owned and operated the Village Package Store for 10 years.
Irene was a communicant of Saint Joseph Basilica in Webster and a member of its Holy Rosary Sodality, Sacred Heart Society and Saint Anne Society. She volunteered for the annual parish festivals at Saint Andrew Bobola Church and at Saint Joseph Basilica. She also served as an interpreter for Polish immigrants in the area.
Mrs. Augustyn was an avid reader. She liked to crochet and sew. John and Irene traveled in the United States and abroad. She was known to visit the casino on occasion. Her family was her treasure.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, March 16, from the Sitkowski, Malboeuf & Hickey Funeral Home, 340 School Street, Webster, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street, Webster. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace, Webster. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, March 15. Donations in her name may be made to either Saint Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street, or to Saint Joseph School Fund, 47 Whitcomb Street, both in Webster, MA 01570.
