Obituary

Elizabeth E. “Beth” (Hutton) Kenney of Andover, formerly of Reading, Charlestown and Medfield, beloved wife of 21 years of Paul E. Kenney, Jr. of Andover, died at her home on July 10, 2006. She was 58 years old. Mrs. Kenney was born on April 5, 1948, in New Haven, Connecticut, the daughter of the late Charles W. and Helen E. (Ballanger) Hutton. She graduated form North Haven High School, North Haven, Connecticut, in 1966, where she was a member of the varsity basketball team, an officer of many clubs including Pep, French and American Field Service and a member of many other clubs, including yearbook and chorus. She then attended Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, 1966-1977, where she was an officer in the Delta Gamma pledge class and dormitory and was the first female sports reporter for the university student newspaper, reporting of junior varsity football. She graduated from Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven Connecticut in 1971 where she held elected and appointed positions in student government, wrote political articles for the student newspaper and was a disk jockey and sports reporter for the student radio station. Mrs. Kenney was a lifeguard, Waterfront Director and Camp Director for the YMCA, private and girls scout day residential camps in Connecticut from 1962 thru 1973. She was a mathematics instructor at the Daniel Hand High School in Madison, Connecticut, from 1971 to 1973, where she was the staff advisor for the Pep and Statistics Clubs and coached intramural men’s basketball. Elizabeth was also property manager and Assistant Program Services Director for the Bay Path Colonial Girl Scout Council in Newton Upper Falls from 1973 thru 1978 and also directed Camp May Day in Weston. Mrs. Kenney was a manager specializing in software applications and finance during a 25 year career with Verizon, starting with New England Telephone in 1978. She was also a member of the Girl Scouts of America for over 40 years. Mrs. Kenney suffered from Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulanemia for many years.
Besides her beloved husband, Paul, she will be sorely missed by her loving sister, Debra H. and her husband William E. Lovett III of Texas, brother; Wallace C. Hutton of California, aunt; Janet H. and her husband John M. Sargent of New Haven, Connecticut and many nieces and nephews. She was also the niece of the late Marion H. Well, William Ballanger, Fred Ballanger, June B. Crochet and Robert L. Ballanger.
Her funeral service was celebrated in the Chapel at West Parish, 129 Reservation Road, Andover, Friday July 14, 2006, at 10 AM. Many relatives and friends attended. Calling hours were in the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home 390 North Main Street, Andover, Thursday, from 4 to 8 PM. Interment was in the West Parish Garden Cemetery, Andover. Donations in Elizabeth’s memory may be made to the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, 330 Brookline Avenue, Boston, MA 02215.
