CHICOPEE – Richard F. “Rick” Dunphy, 86, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, March 3, 2024. He passed into Eternal Life at Pioneer Valley Health and Rehabilitation in South Hadley surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Springfield on January 5, 1938, a beloved son of the late Edward J. and Adiana (Mongeon) Dunphy. He was raised in Northampton, graduated from Smith Vocational High School, and moved to the Fairview section of Chicopee in 1978 where he lived the remainder of his life. He served his country in the United States Army and attained the rank of Specialist Third Class. He was the owner and operator of the former Tri-City Cleaners on Chicopee Street, in the Willimansett section of Chicopee. Rick was a Past Grand Knight and an active volunteer at the Knights of Columbus Fairview Council 4044 and a member of the American Legion Post 275, both in Chicopee. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Virginia I. (Weston) Dunphy. They were married at the former Saint Mary of the Assumption Church in Chicopee on August 22, 1959 and they were blessed with over 64 years of happiness together. He also leaves his three loving children, Kathleen M. Messier and her husband, Michael, of North Andover, Robert E. Dunphy and his wife, Michele, of Chicopee, and Darlene M. Sullivan and her husband, John, of Belchertown; his seven cherished grandchildren, Kristopher Hebert and his wife, Elayna, Kraig Hebert and his partner, Kara, Matthew Dunphy and his wife, Ashley, Jonathan Dunphy and his partner, Kim, Jordan Dunphy and his partner, Gianna, Joshua Clark and his wife, Meredith, and Ashleigh Wiebel and her husband, Nicholas; his seven cherished great grandchildren, Benjamin, Lukas, and Camden Hebert, Evelyn and Ava Dunphy, and Scarlet and Mackenzie Dunphy; his dear brother in law, Richard Weston and his wife, Theresa, of Springfield; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. His relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at 12 p.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Committal Service with United States Army Military Honors will follow the Mass at 2 p.m. in the Chapel at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. There are no visiting hours. His funeral arrangements are entrusted to the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
