Donald F. Morgan, age 94, a longtime resident of Woburn, passed away on March 5, 2024, lovingly surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband for 60 years of Carol G. (Raftery) until her death in 2010.
Born in Somerville, Don was the son of the late Manuel and Margaret (Freelan) Morgan. He was raised in Somerville and graduated from Somerville Technical High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in submarine service during the Korean era. Upon discharge, he joined Local 4 and worked for Otis Elevator for over 30 years.
In his spare time, Don was an active member of the former St. Joseph’s Parish in Woburn, and then St. Mary’s in Winchester. He enjoyed antique cars and had restored a 1966 Mustang and enjoyed working on restoring WWII aircraft. His family recalled how he was very handy and did all of his own repairs. There was nothing he couldn’t fix, and he could often be found working in the yard.
Don is lovingly survived by his children: Sharon E. Cortina and her husband Greg of Nashua, NH, Michael J. Morgan and his wife Alison of Woburn and Daniel J. Morgan of Woburn. He was the cherished grandfather of Nicholas and Alicia Cortina, Christopher, John and Matthew Morgan and the great-grandfather of Evan Sheridan and Ava Cortina. He was also the dear brother of the late Robert Morgan and John Morgan and is further survived by many nieces and nephews. Visiting Hours will be held at the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St., Winchester on Friday, March 8 from 4-7PM, and again on Saturday, March 9 at 10AM followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, 155 Washington St., Winchester, MA 01890 at 11AM. Burial will follow in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Mary’s Church at the address listed or at https://www.stmary-winchester.org
