DAYTON- Nancy Jean Welch, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2024. She was born on Sept.22, 1948, the daughter of Raymond and Barbara (Thomas) Roberts. A lifelong resident of Dayton, she graduated from Thornton Academy in 1966. She then went to the University of Maine at Orono for 2 years, studying Animal Medical Technology.
In the 70's and 80's she did extensive volunteer work at the Dayton school including filling the then volunteer librarian position, among many other things.
She was very much interested in genealogy and spent much of her time researching her family tree, filling lots of notebooks with charts and names of relatives and traveling all over New England looking for cemeteries and seeking out the gravestones of her ancestors. She also was a member of several genealogical organizations.
She also loved dogs and cats, and usually had one or two of each. On TV, she enjoyed watching Jeopardy, Red Sox games, Curse of Oak Island, and shows about true crimes. She also enjoyed going on car trips, especially to Vermont, where she and Andy spent many weekends seeing the sights by day and camping in state parks overnight.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years- Andrew; her son- Michael Ritcheson of Limington; 2 brothers- Dave Roberts and wife Marianne of Hudson, MA, and Jim Roberts and wife Nancy of Dayton; and several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday March 10th from 3 - 5 PM at the Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel, 498 Long Plains Road (Rt. 22) in Buxton. A graveside service will be held in the spring at South Buxton (Tory Hill) Cemetery.
