Richard W. Crow, Sr., 87, of Londonderry, NH, died Sunday March 3, 2024 in Portsmouth Regional Hospital in Portsmouth, NH after a lengthy hospitalization. He was born on October 14, 1936 in Frostburg, MD, a son of the late Harry W. and Margaret (Arnold) Crow. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret (Hess) Crow. He was a graduate of Mt. Savage High School in 1954, and had attended Frostburg State College. He had been a resident of Londonderry since 1983, formerly living in Rochester, NH.
Mr. Crow was a construction engineer for over 66 years, having been employed by various engineering firms and as a self-employed construction engineer. He was a member of the American Consulting Engineers Council of NE, American Society of Civil Engineers, American Construction Inspectors Assoc., American Water Works Assoc., and was a Certified Senior Engineering Technician with the National Society of Professional Engineers since 1973.
Mr. Crow was a retired Chief Petty Officer, Engineering Aid with the US Naval SEABEE Reserves with 30 years of service. He helped establish the retired SEABEE Association from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Reserve Center and was the secretary/treasurer of the association. He had served with NMCB-23 and NMCB-27 during his 30 years.
He is survived by his wife, Sherrill A. Crow; his son, Richard W. Crow, Jr.; grandson, Richard W. Crow, III; two granddaughters, Marcia Lynn Crow, and Jamie Raye Crow; two stepsons, David Atherton, and Andrew Atherton; step grandchildren, Alexander, Adrian, David III, William, and Benjamin.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held at the Central Congregational Church, 14 Crescent St., Derry, NH on Sunday, March 17th at 2:00pm. Refreshments will be served. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium of Derry and Londonderry are assisting the family with arrangements.
