Maria DeJesus Santos, 71, died Friday February 23, 2024 at Evergreen House Health Care Center in East Providence.
Born in San Miguel, Azores, Portugal on March 14, 1952 she was a daughter of the late Manuel Jacinto DosSantos and Maria (DoNascimento) Dos Santos of San Miguel. She was raised and attended school in San Miguel.
In 1974 at the age of 22 Maria came to the United States. She lived in New Bedford, Providence, Pawtucket and many years in Cumberland.
Maria worked at Health-Tex in Cumberland, as an independent seamstress and as a home-care worker. She was very talented at sewing, knitting and crocheting. In her spare time she enjoyed watching television and movies. Maria had a special place in her heart for dolphins.
Maria will be remembered as a loving and caring person. Her family and home were the center of her life.
Maria is survived by her daughter Michelle Oliveira of Woonsocket and a son Steve Oliveira and his husband Brandon of Tennessee. She was the loving and proud grandmother of Christina, Joshua, Alysia, Ava and Talia and equally loving and proud great-grandmother of Logan and Lizzie. She was the sister of Joao Santos and his wife Maria of Seekonk, Gilberto Santos and his wife Marta Lima Santos, Maria Estrela Medeiros and her husband Sebastiao Medeiros and Maria Nescimento and her husband Adelino Medeiros all of San Miguel. She is survived by her extended family of many nieces and nephews and their families both in the Rhode Island/Massachusetts area and in the Azores.
All are welcome to attend Maria's funeral service on Thursday March 14, 2024 at 7:00 pm at Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket. Visiting time with the family will be from 6:00-7:00 pm prior to the service. Maria will be laid to rest at a later date.
