Gerard ‘Skip’ Checchia August 4. 1940-March 2, 2024.
Skip was born and raised in Greenwich Village, New York City. He married the love of his life , Joan Nocetti, on June 3, 1961. They had four children, Gerard, Mark, Eric, and Tara. Joan passed away in 1985 after a long illness. Skip remained a devoted husband until the end.
He loved his family and dedicated his life to them. When his daughter Tara moved to Massachusetts, he moved also to be closer to her and her family. To say he loved the New York Yankees is an understatement. He loved the New York Yankees. He Always had a quick wit and had sarcasm for days. He’d give you the shirt off his back. Everyone loved Skip. He had a fruitful life and always made his family the top priority.
He is survived by his four children and their spouses. Gerard and Elizabeth Checchia from Cornville Arizona. Mark and Deborah Checchia from New Paltz New York. Eric and Renè from Hicksville Long Island. And Tara and Michael Esposito from Bellingham Massachusetts. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren: Gerard, Miaura, Brianna, Taylor, Grace, Courtney, Erica, Giovanna, Michael , and Macario. He also leaves behind his great granddaughter, Liliana. He is survived by his loving sister, Cecelia and her husband, Joseph and their family. Also, his brother Edward, his wife, Carmen and their family. He leaves behind over 30 nieces and nephews and countless great nieces and nephews.
Waiting for him in heaven is his loving wife, Joan. His parents Macario and Margaret. His brothers, Thomas, Anthony, Robert, and sister Margaret also wait there for him. Rest easy- you were loved.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Friday March 8th, at 10AM from the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 1 Church Square Franklin at 11AM. To view the Mass stmarysfranklin.org
Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery Queens, New York.
