HAMMEL (née O’Leary), Catherine Josephine "Kitty" Age 98, of Needham, MA formerly of Dedham, MA, Onset, MA and Wexford, Ireland, died peacefully at her home on March 1, 2024 surrounded by family.She was born in Wexford, Ireland daughter of John and Marian O’Leary. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Frederick, who she was married to for 63 years. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Molly and Philomena, and brothers, Timothy, Thomas, Patrick, and Cyril.She leaves her loving family: daughter and son-in law, Eileen and Bryan Greene, granddaughters, Kari-Ann and Allison (Nelson Barrantes), great-grandsons, Joseph, Oliver and Declan; daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Robert Dunn, grandchildren, Matt (Julie Jackson), Kelly (Justin Stedman) and Hannah, and great-granddaughter Jenevieve; son and daughter-in-law, Frederick and Dana Hammel, grandchildren, Ted (Rachel), Nick and Grace; daughter and son-in-law, Cathryn and Brian Howlett, grandchildren, Andrew, Julianna and Emma; daughter and son-in-law, Marianne and Bruce Beardsley, and grandchildren, Lilly (Vinny Palladino), William, Thomas and Tess. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Catherine greatly enjoyed spending time with her family, looked back fondly on her time in Ireland, was a fantastic tennis player, never met a baby she did not love, and took pleasure in regaling her family with stories of her life.
Visiting hours at George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St. Dedham on Tuesday, March 5, from 4-7pm. Funeral from the funeral home on Wednesday, March 6, at 9am followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Dedham at 10am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment immediately following Mass at Brookdale Cemetery, Dedham. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Catherine’s name to Buzzards Bay Coalition, 114 Front St. New Bedford, MA 02740.
