George Edward Montgomery, 70, of Tifton passed away Monday, February 23, 2004, at his residence. His funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 26, 2004, at Lake View Baptist Church in Cook County with the Rev. John S. Gibbs, Sr. and the Rev. Steve Pickern officiating. Mr. Montgomery was laid to rest at Staunton Cemetery in Lenox.
Jim Brown, Derrick John, Jimmy Watson Sr., Ivey Peters, Wallace Montgomery and Michael Cone served as pallbearers.
Born June 28, 1933, in Cook County, Mr. Montgomery was the son of the late George Washington Montgomery and Sallie Yawn Montgomery. He was also preceded in death by one brother and one sister. Before retiring, he was a chief radar technician for the Civil Service; and he was a member of Tifton's First Assembly of God. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force; and he was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W.
Mr. Montgomery is survived by his wife, Helen Scarborough Montgomery of Tifton; two daughters, Sara Watson and Patricia Schwalls, both of Tifton; one brother, Wayne Montgomery of Tifton; two sisters, Jane Bridges of Sylvester and Eudine Vickers of Seaford, Delaware; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
