Mary Elizabeth Williams Mathis, 73, of Omega passed away Saturday, December 11, 2004, at her residence. Her funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 13, 2004, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Joe Wiggins and the Rev. Robert Osborne officiating. Mrs. Mathis was laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Ricky Revels, J. B. Newell, David Mathis, Patrick Spurgeon, Josh Mathis and Timothy Mathis served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were the Rev. Robert Osborne and Jason Mathis.
Born October 4, 1931, in Bibb County, Mrs. Mathis was the daughter of the late Willie A. Williams and Essie Henson Williams. She was also preceded in death by one son and three brothers. Before retiring, she was a winder at J. P. Stevens in Tifton; and she was a homemaker. She was a member of Unity Tabernacle in Tifton.
Mrs. Mathis is survived by her husband, Doyle L. Mathis of Omega; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Joe and Nancy Mathis of Tifton, Ricky Mathis of Valdosta, Paul and Elaine Mathis of Sycamore and Randy and Rhonda Mathis of Cordele; two daughters and one son-in-law, Annett Downs of Chula and Linda and Allen Whitley of the West Berrien Community; three brothers, W. A. Williams of Chester, Jack Williams of North Carolina and David Williams of Macon; two sisters, Anna Lou Johnson of Macon and Pauline Holcomb of Rentz; fifteen grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
