Oveda Carter Marchant, 88, of Tifton passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 8, 2004m, at Omega United Methodist Church with the Rev. Frank Morris and the Rev. Cecil Felts officiating. Mrs. Marchant was laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Dustin Hawkins, Carey Hawkins, Greg Marchant, Mike hand, Kevin Clements, Kaleb Clements, Collin Hathorn, Ronny Marchant, Keith Royal and Charlie Lewis served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were the members of Omega United Methodist Church.
Born September 16, 1915, in Tift County, Mrs. Marchant was the daughter of the late William B. Carter and Roxanne Hutto Carter. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Emerson Marchant, who passed away in 1997. Before retiring, she was a paraprofessional with the Tift County Board of Education; and she was a member of Omega United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Marchant is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Carter and Emily Marchant of Columbus and Don and Donna Marchant and Carlton and Lea Marchant, all of Tifton; two daughters and one son-in-law, Peggy and Kenny Hawkins and Paige Hand, all of Tifton; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
