Joseph M. Ramos, 94, of Dartmouth died February 23, 2024 at home surrounded by his family.
He was the husband of the late Margaret J. (Oliver) Ramos and Virginia A. (Johnson) Ramos. Father of his only son late Joseph M Ramos Jr. and Grandfather of late Marcus J. Cruz.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late Mathias and Julia Ramos, he lived in Dartmouth.
He was formerly employed as a Merchant Mariner with More Mack Sky for many years until his retirement at the age of 48 as a Chief Engineer. He owned and operated various businesses through his life, including but not limited to owning a gas station that he managed with his brother Everett and running a Merchant Mariners club. His achievements throughout his career and lifetime were as limitless as the love and care he showed for his community. He enjoyed giving back to his community, working on his cars, dancing, enjoying new experiences with friends, and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his brother, Everett Ramos; sister, Vivian Barbosa; daughters, Pamela Cruz of New Bedford, Johanna Ramos-Smoot and her husband Sandy Smoot, estranged daughter Patricia Ramos, all of Dartmouth and Julia Ramos Johnson of Boston; 16 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
His Funeral will be held on Friday, March 1st at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 10 AM. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, February 29th from 4-7 PM.
