Obituary

Bella M. (Thibeault) Calnan, 96, of Mendon, died peacefully at her home on Sunday, February 25, 2024 surrounded by her loved ones. She was the beloved wife of Charles R. Calnan who died in 1987.

Born in Milford on August 12, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Flora (Beland) Thibeault.

Bella grew up in Medway and graduated from Medway High School in 1945 where she was the “M” in Medway on the cheerleading squad.

Bella was a homemaker for most of her life and enjoyed spending time with her family. Nothing made her more happy than a house full of people who she could cook and bake for while sharing stories and memories. She loved to remind us that “everything I make is good” followed up with a grin.

She is survived by her children Judy Rice and the late John Rice of Medway, Robert Calnan and the late Dyanna Rondeau of Northbridge, Michael Calnan and his wife Marchele of Webster, Mary Hackenson and her husband Scott of Whitinsville, and her Son-in law Michael Brogan of Mendon. She was the mother of the late Susan Brogan.

She is also survived by eighteen grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Edward Thibeault, Henry Thibeault, Leo Thibeault, Bertha Szymanski, and Lillian Pollard.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral Mass on Friday, March 1 at St. Joseph Church, 151 Village St. in Medway at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Medway. 

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4 – 7 p.m. in the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bella’s memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
