DOHERTY, Joseph E., Jr. 91, of Dedham, son of Nina and Joseph passed away surrounded by his loving family on February 24, 2024. Beloved husband of Barbara J. (Browne) Doherty for 67 years. Devoted father of Kathleen Kenney and her partner Gerard Lucas of Roslindale, Kelly Lovely and her husband Chuck Valenza North Falmouth, Alison Miceli and her husband Keith Miceli of Wrentham, Paul Doherty of East Falmouth, Kristen Waters and her husband Greg of Mansfirld, and Robert Doherty of Atlanta, GA. Father-in-law of the late John Kenney.
Loving grandfather of Ryan, Christine, Megan, Brendan, Connor, Christina, Jeffrey, Jessica, Leanne, Joseph, Lauren, Gregory, and Colleen. Great-grandfather of Isabel.
Joseph served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He later earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Northeastern and Boston University. Prior to retirement, Joseph was the former Director of Environmental Services at the New England Deaconess Hospital and Mt. Auburn Hospital.
There was nothing that Joe enjoyed more than spending time with his children, grandchildren and his many friends, especially those from his Fulton Street neighborhood. He was an avid supporter of all Dedham Sports. He was a member of the Dedham Finance Committee and a Town Meeting Member. Joseph volunteered at St. Mary’s Church for many years. He also enjoyed being a member of the BoSox Club.
Visiting hours will be held at the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St., Dedham on Friday, March 1 from 8:30-10:15am. Followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 420 High St., Dedham at 10:30am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment in Brookdale Cemetery, Dedham.
