Maria Fatima (Rego) DeSousa, 70, of Fall River, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 23, 2024, at Southpoint Nursing Home, Fall River, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Manuel DeSousa.
Born February 14, 1954, in Sao Miguel, Azores, daughter of the late Guilmar Rego and Salvador Tavares. Maria was a longtime resident of Fall River, proud parishioner of Santo Christo Parish in Fall River, and a devout Catholic.
Maria leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories with her 3 children, Michael DeSousa and his wife Diane of Fall River, Sandra DeSouza of Fall River, and Mario DeSousa and his wife Meghan of Westport. Her grandchildren who she loved dearly Michael , Chloe , Alexeya, Savanna , Vanessa, Aryanna, Christian, Ashton, Juiliana, Kaylana, Jaxon and great granddaughter Aubrey. Her siblings Luis Tavares, Tony Tavares, John Tavares, and Ana Martin.
Maria is predeceased in life by her parents Salvador Tavares, Guilmar Rego, Grandson Richard DeSousa, and her siblings Salvador Tavares, Fernando Tavares, and Isaura Sousa.
Maria had many past times and hobbies but could always be ready for an adventure to the casino, she was always in attendance at the Portuguese Feasts, supporting her favorite New England Sports Team the Patriots, cooking for her friends and family, crocheting and knitting for her children, but most of all what she enjoyed most was spending time with her family and those who she cherished most in life.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 4 - 7pm on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at Southcoast Funeral Home, 1555 Pleasant Street, Fall River.
A funeral will be held at 9:00 am from the Southcoast Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at Santo Christo Parish, 185 Canal St, Fall River. Burial will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery, 1540 Stafford Rd, Fall River.
