Obituary

Edwin R. Baldwin, 82, of Fairhaven passed away Thursday February 22, 2024 after a period of declining health.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Rev. Russell W. Baldwin and Dorothy E. (Hauswirth) Baldwin, he lived in Fairhaven for most of his life.

Ed was a graduate of Fairhaven High School and Utica College where he made lifelong friendships with his fraternity brothers.

He was a member of People’s Christian Church in New Bedford, where his father served as pastor for many years.

Professionally, Ed worked for Revere Copper and Brass and John I. Paulding in New Bedford before continuing his sales career with R.B. Corcoran and Robinson Supply. After his retirement from sales, he joined the team at Riverside Cemetery.

Ed’s great interests were local history and theater and he indulged them both as a volunteer with the New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park and as a member of Your Theater, Inc. He was an avid sports fan and greatly enjoyed travel whether to investigate new ballparks or exotic destinations. He was active with the New Bedford Preservation Society, portraying local historical characters during their annual cemetery tours. He also served in the U.S. Air Force from 1959-1963.

He is survived by his longtime friend and companion, Lucy A. Bly; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Russell, Randolph, and William Baldwin.

At his request, there will be a private burial service in Riverside Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
