Virdilee King, 104, of Tifton passed away Thursday, November 25, 2004, at Beverly Health Care in Tifton. A graveside funeral service was held for Miss King on Saturday, November 27, 2004, at Oak Ridge Cemetery, where she was laid to rest. The Rev. Jerry Lillard officiated.
Born April 26, 1900, in Randolph County, Alabama, Miss King was the daughter of the late John Thomas King and Ida Belle Murphy King. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary jane King and Lillian King; two brothers, William Dallas King and Thomas L. King; and two nephews, James Thomas King and Walter Murphy King. Before retiring, she was a bookkeeper for many years at Kulbersh's Department Store. Coming to Tifton with her family in the mid-1900s, she resided at the family home at 612 North Tift Avenue. She was the eldest member of Tifton's First United Methodist Church.
Miss King is survived by one niece, Kathryn King of Watkinsville; two nephews, William Coleman King of Santee, South Carolina and Frederick King of Pleasantdale, Nebraska; and a number of beloved great-nieces and great-nephews.
