Leona Metoria Burdette Ireland, 89, of Tifton passed away Sunday, February 1, 2004, at Tift Health Care. Her funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 4, 2004, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. d. E. Beasley officiating. Mrs. Ireland was laid to rest at Dakota Cemetery in Turner County.
Joe Ireland, Scott Jackson, Mitchell Jackson, Travis Ireland, Daniel West, Kevin Perryman, Robert Horn and Frank Jones served as pallbearers.
Born February 13, 1914, in Turner County, Mrs. Ireland was the daughter of the late Collie Anderson Burdette and Maybelle Beard Burdette. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Jefferson Ireland, who passed away in 1966; an infant daughter; and two brothers, Elmer Burdette and Oren Burdette. She was a homemaker; and she was a member of Salem Baptist Church in Tifton. She was a longtime resident of Turner County.
Mr. Ireland is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Charles and Joyce Ireland of Jasper, Alabama, James and Kay Ireland of Sylvester and Calvin Ireland of Norfolk, Virginia; two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Roger Dale Danforth of Enigma and Charlotte and Frank Simmons of Marietta; three brothers, Grady Burdette and Henry Burdette, both of Ty Ty and C. A. Burdette of Sycamore; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Emma Lou Burdette and Velma and Cleo Beasley, all of Ty Ty and Esther Engebretsen of Oregon; sixteen grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
