Carl Bruno, 76, of Whitman, Massachusetts passed away on February 15th at the South Shore Hospital from a prolonged illness.
Carl was born in Boston, Massachusetts and was the son of Giacomo and Dorothy Bruno. Carl was raised in South Boston, attended Boston Latin High School, and graduated from South Boston High School in 1965.
He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1965 and served his country during the Vietnam War being recalled to three combat tours of overseas duty. Carl was honorably discharged as a Technical Sargent in 1973 but remained in the U.S. Air Force Reserves until 1988.
After returning to civilian life in Massachusetts he was employed in the food industry primarily as a meat cutter and in the evening attended college classes. He was the owner of the Bruno Meat & Deli located at Bruno’s Corner in Cedarville for several years. Carl completed his studies after 23-year hiatus and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Northeastern University. He continued with his career in the food industry as well as public health and was employed in the town of Norwood as their Registered Sanitarian and retired from there in 2010.
After his retirement he continued working as a Driver’s Education instructor at the North River Driving School in Pembroke. Carl enjoyed his retirement years camping in his RV in Newport, R.I. with his grandchildren during the summer months and extended winter vacations in Florida.
Carl leaves behind his loving partner Karen Marshall and his four children Carl Bruno, Jr. of Plymouth, Marjorie Parmenter of Manomet, Margaret Bruno of Las Vegas, NV., John Arthur Bruno and Tina Carr of Kingston as well as his beloved grandchildren the late Robert Parmenter III, Jessica Parmenter of Buzzards Bay, AJ Bruno, Nina Bruno, Gianna Bruno, and Robert Carr of Kingston. He also leaves an extended family of cousins and his dear friends.
There will be a private family Celebration of Life for Carl at his son’s restaurant in Marshfield. He will be buried with his family at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Roslindale.
