BIDDEFORD- Michael Conrad Martel, age 82, passed away with his family by his side on February 19, 2024.
Michael or “Mickey” or “Mike” as he was known, was born on October 27, 1941, in Biddeford. He was a son of the late George and Ruth Martel of Arundel.
For many years Michael worked in shoe factories and twenty-five years at Wood Structures in Saco where he retired from.
He enjoyed racing slot cars with his family and friends for the past ten years. This was an activity he shared with his son, grandsons and brother. He enjoyed playing Mario Kart with his daughter Justine, feeding birds, gardening, and watching NASCAR racing.
He proudly served in the US Army from 1966-1968 and was stationed in Germany.
Michael is survived by his wife of 60 years- Alana Martel; his children- Jeff Martel and his wife Carrie of Arundel, Joel Martel and his wife Heather of Rochester, NH, and Justine Martel of Biddeford; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild; and siblings- George, Alfred, William, Dennis, and Carol. He is also survived by his best friends- Fluffy and Peanut.
He is predeceased by his brothers Paul and Tommy Martel
Visitation will be held on Saturday Feb. 24 from 1 PM to 2 PM at the Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel, 498 Long Plains Road (Rt. 22) in Buxton, followed by a service at 2 PM at the funeral home.
