Maren Tracy, of Millis, died December 20,2023, at the Ruth McLain Hospice Home in Braintree.
Born in Tokyo, Japan, January 31,1957, the daughter of the late Donald and Beatrice (Mabee) Tracy, her father was serving in the military at the time of her birth.
Due her father’s military career she moved around a lot while growing up, moving nearly every year.
Maren fondly remembers living in Izmir, Turkey from where she still had a sweatshirt from her high school sports team, the Izmir Sultans. Maren’s family eventually made their way to Colorado where she lived for a while.
Maren also lived in Oregon for some time, then moved to Bermuda and worked on a scientific ship as a deckhand for a few years.
Bermuda is where she met her best friend, Donna Henderson, who remained her best friend until Maren passed away.
Maren eventually came to Woods Hole working in the Chemistry Department of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution as a research assistant.
She also worked at Eight Cousins Bookstore in Falmouth, and later at the Falmouth Library.
Maren was a very curious and adventurous person. She saw the beauty in things that most of us would call junk. She was an avid antiquer and thrift shopper, always looking for a treasure or a good deal, she could often be found searching eBay for things she bought at the thrift shop, and sometimes it turned out she had found something quite valuable indeed!
Maren like to collect things from nature, whether it be sea glass (she had huge jars of it, separated by color) sticks, (labeled with tree type and significance- e.g. “Joey (her dog) ran into this branch yesterday, 2023”
She was also an accomplished knitter and had an eye for quality yarns.
Maren is survived by her daughter Alaina Plueddemann of West Falmouth.
She is also survived by her siblings, Margaret (Tracy) Thompson, Mike Tracy, Chris Tracy and Jeff Tracy.
A celebration of Maren’s life will be held at a later date.
