NOANK: Alden F. Mitchell, 92, of Noank died Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London. He was predeceased by his wife, Josephine E. (Paulic) Mitchell and his stepdaughter, Cynthia Kline.
Mitch was born on December 8, 1931 the son of Frank Tillinghast and Irene Maude (Blaisdell) Mitchell. He grew up in Montville, CT.
He served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years and was honorably discharged in the late 1960's. He was a member of the Masons for 52 years.
Mitch was the Music Director at the Old Mystic Baptist Church for 40 years. He has been retired for the last 20 years. He also played organ concerts at the Rhode Island Performing Arts Center in Providence, RI and at Pizza, Pipes & Pandemonium in Groton, and many other large and small venues. Mitch could play music for many hours nonstop without using music sheets.
Mitch is survived by his children, Robert Mitchell of El Cajon, California, Gail Brown (husband, Lynn) of San Antonio, Texas, step-children Denise McGuire of Florida, Alicia Barger of St. George, Vermont and many grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by his dear friends, Irene Kiely, Rita Steward, and Bob and Elaine Ackley.
A Funeral Service will be held in May at the Poquonnock Bridge Baptist Church. Burial will be in Smith Lake Cemetery, Groton. Finalized arrangements will be published in the New London Day and on this website.
