Obituary

Thomas J. Maloney, 56, of Woodstock, CT, formerly of Worcester, died unexpectedly on Thursday, February 15th at home. He leaves his brother, John Maloney and his wife, Teresa (Erkoc) of Worcester; two nieces, Katherine Maloney of West Hartford, CT and Margaret Maloney of Worcester; and many beloved extended family members of which he tirelessly kept in touch with.

He was born in Worcester to the late John F. Jr. and Eileen (Sheehan) Maloney. Tom attended Worcester Vocational Technical High School where he studied to become an electrician, graduating in 1985. He then joined the IBEW Local 96 working hard as an apprentice under the watchful eye of Ralph Giangrande and many other “old salts”. Tom was very accomplished within Local 96, he became recording secretary, was on the executive and examining board and became business manager in 2017. He was also a member of the National Electrical Contractors Association. In his free time, Tom loved to watch baseball, specifically the Red Sox, which was passed down from his uncle, Tom Sheehan, President of International Steel Workers Union. For his love of baseball, Thomas was appointed commissioner of the Worcester Red Sox, which he was very proud of. He was also a lifelong motorcycle enthusiast and had a passion for restoring antique motorcycles and riding his Harley with treasured friends and family whenever he could. Tom also enjoyed boxing at Exchange Street Gym and at Ionic Boys Club, rugby, scuba diving, playing bagpipes and traveling. His most memorable trip was when he sailed upon the U.S.S. Bark Eagle, which sailed out of Ireland to Denmark and Germany. He relished his time with family and friends from all over the globe. He was very loved and will be greatly missed.

His funeral will be held on Thursday, February 22nd from O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with his funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in the Cathedral of St. Paul, 38 High Street. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, 260 Cambridge Street. Calling hours are Wednesday, February 21st from 4:00pm until 7:00pm in the funeral home.
