Obituary

Joseph Andre Nelson Maillet, 85, of New Bedford died Thursday, February 15, 2024 at home after a brief illness. He was the husband of Joanne (Craig) Maillet.

Born in New Bedford, son of the late Calixte and Celia (Melanson) Maillet, he lived in New Bedford most of his life.

He was a communicant of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church.

Mr. Maillet was a graduate of New Bedford High School and Fisher College.

He was formerly employed as a superintendent for CommGas for many years until his retirement. In retirement, he was employed by Lars V. Olson Fine Home Building and Southcoast Custom Woodworking as well as Home Depot, where he was still employed part-time.

Joe enjoyed woodworking and weightlifting.

He is survived by his wife, Joanne; three children, Terrie Sullivan and her husband Steven, Jacqueline Maillet and her husband Paul Ciennewa, and Matthew Maillet and his wife Anne-Marie; his sister, Jeanne Pepin; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his grandson, Andrew Joseph Rogissart and three brothers, Ernest, Walter, and Normand Maillet.

His Funeral will be held Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church.
