Irene Gottlieb, 93, passed away in Thousand Oaks on February 15, 2024. Irene was a Ventura County resident since 1946.
Irene (Renee) was born in Philadelphia, PA, lived many years in New York City, and moved to Oxnard in 1946. She graduated from Oxnard High School in 1948. In 1950 she married Irving Gottlieb. She and Irv were the first couple to be married at the Ventura County Jewish Council, Temple Beth Torah. A mother of three children, she was an active member of the Temple Beth Torah Sisterhood, lead many religious, cultural, and charitable activities. For more than twenty years she was school administrator for the Oxnard Unified School District, and at Kamala Elementary School. She was a voracious reader and a crossword puzzle aficionado, completing the Sunday New York Times crossword in one day. She was an enthusiastic card and mahjong player, regularly playing until she was past her 90th birthday. She loved to cook and entertain, and her house was always open to friends and family. Supporter and advocate for her children, always volunteering for Girls Scouts, Little League, and the Cheerleading squad at Buena High. Always to be remembered as a superior and adventurous cook, she always had the warmest and most welcoming home, to enjoy her labor of love, cooking.
For her last couple years, Renee moved down to Tarzana to be closer to family who were also able to provide the love and care that the family wanted her to have. She continued to be an avid reader and enjoyed time with friends and family.
Renee was predeceased by her parents Dave and Elizabeth (Pestelet) Cotler and her husband Irving Gottlieb. She is survived by her three children, Miriam Gottlieb, Gregory Gottlieb (Linda Howey) and Deborah Nulman (Barry), who provided wonderful care for her in the last years of her life. She also is survived by five grandchildren, Emma, Andrew, and Daniel Nulman, Talia and Joseph Gottlieb.
Family and friends are invited to graveside funeral services to be officiated by Cantor Doug Cotler Wednesday afternoon, February 21, 2024 at 1:00pm at the Ivy Lawn Cemetery, Ventura. Arrangements are under the direction of the JOSEPH P. REARDON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICE, 757 E. Main Street, Ventura.
