Roy Kenneth Young, 75, of Fitzgerald, GA died Monday, February 12, 2024, at his residence surrounded by family.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Friday, February 16, 2024, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald, GA with Pastor Larry Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald, GA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Young was born June 12, 1948, in Irwin County, GA to the late Roy T and Willene Thompson Young. Mr. Young attended Ashton School and Fitzgerald High School. He was a local farmer in Ben Hill County for 15 years having received the Outstanding Young Farm Family award in 1982. In 2007 he retired from Delco Remy/Delphi after 22 years of service. After retirement, he returned to part time farming. Mr. Young was a founding member of The Laymen Southern Gospel group where he sang bass. He was a member of Prospect Baptist Church where he had served in the roles of Sunday school teacher, Director of Training Union, deacon, and member of the choir. His hobbies consisted of fishing, singing, and gardening (especially his daylilies).
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jane Peters Young, his daughters, Donna (Dan) Kunkler of Fitzgerald, GA and Aneisa Young of Tifton, GA; grandchildren, Ansley Gatlin of Savannah, GA and Blake Kunkler of Columbus, GA; sisters, Nadine Howell, Vickie Lamb, Cindy McIntosh, and Jena Golden of Fitzgerald, GA; several in-laws, nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive. In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his sister Brenda Bryant.
