Obituary

Our beloved mother, Carol Jean Bramblett Johnson, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 26th, 2024, at the age of 81 at her son’s house in Bishop, GA.

Mrs. Johnson was born in Sylvania, GA, on March 14th, 1942, and lived in the neighboring town of Newington, GA, as a child. Her father was the late Richard Leon Bramblett, and her mother was the late Mary Katharine Massey Bramblett. Mrs.
Johnson was also preceded in death by her brother, Richard Bramblett.

She attended Screven County High School in Sylvania, GA. She was on the yearbook staff, and she was also a member of the honor society.

Mrs. Johnson moved to Atlanta as a teenager, and she graduated from Druid Hills High School in Dekalb County, GA. She then attended North Georgia College in Dahlonega, GA, where she met her husband, James Bradford Johnson, who preceded her in death on June 28th, 2014.

Mrs. Johnson worked for Arthur Andersen when she lived in Atlanta, GA, and also worked as a substitute teacher in Macon, GA, while her children were in elementary school. She was the owner of Tifton Insurance Agency in Tifton, GA, and she also worked for Girl Scouts of Albany, GA.

Mrs. Johnson retired as the Director of the United Way of South Central Georgia in Tifton, GA. She served the communities of Tift, Turner, Cook, Ben Hill, and Irwin counties for ten years in South Georgia. Mrs. Johnson had a strong passion for helping others and was always working to make her community a better place. She started Santa’s Helpers in Tifton to make sure that no child had to wake up on Christmas morning without any toys from Santa. She served hundreds of families in need in South Georgia. She was selected as one of five United Way Directors from around the country to travel to Washington, D.C., to share the secrets of her continued success in improving the United Way of South Central Georgia.

Mrs. Johnson moved to Watkinsville, GA, in 2016, and she was a resident of the independent living section of St. Mary’s Highland Hills Village. She had many close friends there that she loved very much. A memorial service will be held at Highland Hills in the future as soon as the facility recovers from a recent flood.

Mrs. Johnson was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Tifton until she moved to Watkinsville. "She loved to sing and playing the piano."

Mrs. Johnson is survived by her three sons and one daughter-in-law; Richard Bradford Johnson, Stephen Bramblett Johnson and his wife, Nicole McGill Johnson, and James Daniel Johnson. Mrs. Johnson also leaves behind four precious grandchildren; Amelia Johnson, Mac Johnson, Elise Johnson, and Quinn Johnson, who she loved so much and who meant the world to her.

She loved the beach, and she and her late husband spent many wonderful days vacationing at their favorite beaches. Mrs. Johnson’s wish was that she be cremated and to have her family get together in her memory and spread her ashes at the beach. Her wish will be honored at a date to be determined.

She was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother. She always put others above herself. She loved to have family reunions at her home at Lake Say Hi in Tifton, GA. Her home was a favorite place for the family to gather. She was famous for her snack drawer, which she always made sure was full of everyone’s favorite treats. She was a wonderful cook, and she always made sure that anyone who came to her house was treated like family and that no one ever left hungry.

Carol Jean Bramblett Johnson will be sorely missed by everyone who loved her.
