Obituary

WORCESTER___Joseph A. Beriau, Jr., 98, passed away at Dodge Park Rest Home, Worcester, on Monday, February 5, 2024. His wife of 71 years, Elizabeth (DiCarlo) Beriau, and his son, Vincent Beriau predeceased him.

Joseph was born in Worcester, Massachusetts on April 27, 1925, son of Joseph and Delia (Goyette) Beriau. He lived all his life in Worcester and raised 5 children. He leaves his sons, Joseph Beriau, III of Worcester, James Beriau and wife, Jeannette of Wellington, Florida, Christopher Beriau and wife, Lori of Key Largo, Florida and his daughter, Bernadette (Beriau) Toomey and husband, Edward of Paxton. He also leaves his devoted grandchildren; Lisa (Toomey) Leveillee and husband, Tim of Leicester, Lauren (Toomey) King and husband, John of Shrewsbury, and Jennifer Beriau, Amy Fanjoy and Tina Beriau of Maine and he leaves 8 great-grandchildren. He also leaves his brother, Theodore Beriau and sisters, Marilyn Vramos of Worcester, Marsha Morin of Colorado and Carol Kane of Florida, a sister-in-law, Carol Catino and husband, Robert as well as many nieces and nephews.

Joseph was a proud graduate of St. John’s High School in 1945. Later, as he raised his family, he opened Beriau Auto Body in Worcester. He also worked for the family roofing company, J.A. Beriau and Sons. Eventually he worked at Tabco as an auto parts manager and as an insurance claims adjuster for Travelers Insurance company. He loved to play the piano and found great joy in giving piano lessons to children. His catholic faith was a dominant part of his life. He was a member of St. Stephen’s Church and he devoted his time as a member of the choir, taught catechism classes and was a frequent lector during Sunday Masses.

He was known for his quiet and compassionate kindness, always giving whatever he had. He loved his family deeply and celebrated their achievements and was always there when they needed him. He will be missed by all who knew him. Our family would like to extend our gratitude to the staff at Dodge Park Rest Home for the wonderful care given to Joseph and Elizabeth during their time there.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday February 16 from 9:00 – 10:30 A.M. in DIRSA – MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 298 Grafton Street. His funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 A.M. in St. Stephen’s Church, 357 Grafton Street. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
