Obituary




Ann H. (Meehan) Bennett of Rye Beach, NH, formerly of Woburn, MA and Beaumont, TX slipped away peacefully February 8, 2004, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital in New Hampshire. She was the beloved wife for 63 years of the late William A. Bennett, Sr. Born in Woburn, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Ann (Byron) Meehan.

Ann is the devoted mother of Anne "Nancy" Bennett of Little River, SC, Kevin F. Bennett of Texas, Barbara L C Bennett of Rye Beach, NH, the late William A. Bennett, Jr., and Lawrence E. Bennett. She is also survived by six loving grandchildren, Kiley Bennett Burns and husband John, Ryan C. Bennett and wife Alyssa, Justin C. Jarrell and wife Lara, Joshua C E Jarrell and partner Rachel Neth, Elizabeth Bennett, and William A. Bennett III. Further survived by 10 loving great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews as well as like a daughter, Denise Woolard and her husband Dan. Sister of the late Dr. Frank Meehan.

Ann was a graduate of St. Charles High School, class of 1942, and the 1942 May Queen. Following high school, she attended the Stuart Business School in Boston from 1942 to 1944. Ann then began working as an Administrative Assistant for the Boston Leather Company from 1944 to 1946. On June 15, 1946, Ann married her beloved William in a ceremony held at St. Charles Borromeo Church. Later, she worked for the St. Charles CCD office as the Office Manager. She had many fond memories of the 1973 St. Charles class during that time.

While in Woburn, Ann was very active in the community. She served as a President of the Pop Warner Little League, was active in Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, President of the St. Charles Women's Club and an active member of the Ladies Golf Association at Abenaqui Country Club, Rye Beach, NH. While residing in Beaumont, TX, Ann continued to be active in "her" new home. She was a Eucharistic Minister, President of the Ladies of St. Anne's, Secretary and President of the Women's Golf Association at the Beaumont Country Club, Beaumont Symphony Women’s League, Neches River Festival and a St. Elizabeth Hospital volunteer. Ann attended St. Jude Thaddeus Church and was active with the Women's organization there.

Some of Ann's favorite moments were at Rye Beach, NH where she enjoyed 64 summers with her family and friends. She loved to ice skate, ski, golf and play bridge with the Rye Beach and Beaumont "gang". She attended Boston College football games since the age of 16, and this year she attended 3 games. 82 years of "march along BC" and still remembered all the words to the BC fight song. Ann will be greatly missed by all including her "fur baby" Bella Girl.

Funeral services will be held from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., WOBURN, Thursday, February 15th, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Charles Borromeo Church, 280 Main St., Woburn, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Services will conclude with burial at Calvary Cemetery, Winchester. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Ann's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place o Memphis, TN 38105.
