Ventura has lost a truly special soul. Stephanie Furino aka “Huffy,” embarked on her final chapter February 1, 2024 at the age of 71. Stephanie was born in Hollywood, CA and was preceded in death by her father Donovan Huff and mother Patricia Hicks, leaving behind younger sister Lisa Huff. She loved the beautiful beachside town of Ventura where she grew up, attended Buena High School, Ventura Community College and raised a family of her own. She is survived by her daughter Sarah Furino, son Daniel Furino and his wife Jillian Furino. She treasured her grandchildren Isaac and Natalie and great-granddaughter Marisol, who made her laugh and gave her many precious memories. Unknown to many, Stephanie was quite the creative person. She baked unique and delicious homemade cakes for clients, painted and was a voracious reader. In her free time she loved to travel with family and friends, sharing dreams of far away places and adventures. She always gave of herself to others and made sure to do everything she could for her children and grandchildren, teaching them right from wrong, and how to be humble, considerate, and honest. A “Martha” and a “Suzy Homemaker” who mastered the kitchen best. While working for Ventura Unified School District, she enjoyed cooking and conversing with the students each day. She was a life-long animal lover, especially dogs, birds and angel fish. She always had a special, loved dog by her side whom she enjoyed spoiling rotten. For five decades, her beloved friends Margaret and Kathy stood by her side like cherished bookends. She had a penchant for inspirational plaques and if Stephanie were here, her message might be “It’s time to say goodbye sweetie, just take care of yourselves, and don’t worry about the challenges ahead; let them be water off a duck's back - I’ll see you in the next chapter of our story. God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference”.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you please consider a donation to a local literacy program or animal rescue organization, echoing Stephanie’s passion for knowledge and compassion for all living creatures.
May Stephanie’s soul rest in eternal peace, without pain, surrounded by the love she so freely gave during her time with us. Until we meet again.
