Obituary

Rolando Kurs, 88, passed away peacefully at his home on February 3, 2024. He was born on December 7, 1935, in Mayari, Oriente, Cuba, and grew up in Cuba, where he received his education, earning degrees and certificates in business and accounting from the University of Cuba. Rolando then embarked on a journey that would lead him to Spain and eventually to the United States in 1967, eventually settling in Tewksbury, where he raised his family.

Rolando was a dedicated and hardworking individual, holding multiple jobs to provide for his beloved family. He was the loving husband of the late Bertha (Gomez) Kurs, with whom he shared 41 years of marriage until her passing in 2000. For the past 12 years, he found companionship and joy with Vincenta Angles, with whom he resided.

Known for his vibrant spirit and love for gatherings, Rolando cherished moments spent with friends and family, especially during festive occasions featuring his favorite, a pig roast. He was always at the heart of the festivities, overseeing the preparation and cooking of the pig with great enthusiasm. Rolando also had a passion for cultivating fruit trees and delighted in sharing the fruits of his labor with others, whether it be apples, pears, cherries, or the tropical delights of avocados and mangoes from his Florida home.

An avid outdoorsman, Rolando enjoyed boating and fishing, particularly at his house on Square Pond in Acton, ME, where he found solace by the water's edge. He had a zest for travel, often journeying to Mexico and more recently Cuba to reconnect with family and embrace his heritage, always returning with gifts and stories to share.

Professionally, Rolando made significant contributions to the corporate world, notably serving at the Hybricon Corporation in Littleton and Ayer, where he retired in 2012 as the Controller & Vice President of Finance. Following retirement, he relocated to Miramar, Florida, where he continued to enjoy life's simple pleasures surrounded by loved ones.

Rolando will be deeply missed by his two daughters, Bibianne Fletcher of Tewksbury and Leonor Carpenito and her husband Fred of Acton, along with his grandchildren, John Martino III and his wife Shirley, Nicholas Carpenito and his wife Sara, and Nina Carpenito, Hillary, Brittany, and Drew Fletcher, his great grandchildren; Tori, Frederick and Josephine. He is also survived by his sister, Nelsy Villanueva of Dorchester, numerous nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of friends.

Rolando was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Kurs, in 2017, and his siblings, Luis Kurs, and Sonia Medina.
