Mary E. Meza, 66, of Canton, Massachusetts died on February 6, 2024 at her home from natural causes after a life-long struggle with alcoholism.
Born in Weymouth, Massachusetts in 1957, she was the daughter of the late Archibald McPherson and the late Elizabeth (Anderson) McPherson.
Mary grew up on a farm in Hingham Massachusetts. She eventually moved to Boston Massachusetts where she worked as a dry cleaner in Brookline and as housekeeper at the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital in Jamaica Plain.
She was the sister to the late George Michael Alger of North Carolina, the late Donald McPherson of Whitman, the late Catherine McPherson of Whitman, and the late Alan Glover of Whitman.
She leaves behind her brothers Arthur McPherson and his wife Patricia of Pembroke, and William Glover and his wife Christine of Whitman, her daughter Michelle (Meza) Samargedlis and her husband Paul, her son Keith Meza, 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews and other extended family.
Mary struggled with addiction and she tried many times to find sobriety and for a short time she had found it in 2019-2020. She spent that time with family and moving to her new home, which were both big accomplishments for her. Unfortunately, her addiction and struggles with her mental health were stronger than her willpower to stay in recovery which led to additional health problems during her last few years. Mary had a happy spirit and found joy in the simple things in life.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Saturday February 24, 2024 from 2:00-4:00 PM with a funeral service to follow at 4:00 PM at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Route 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Burial will be private.
