Michael “Mike” K. McAvoy, 66, of Worcester, died Sunday, February 4th at home. He leaves a brother, Mark E. McAvoy and his wife, Sarah of Austin, TX; two nephews, Eric McAvoy of TX and Shane McAvoy of Leicester; two great nieces, Chloe McAvoy and Scarlett McAvoy; and his close friends, Robert Stevens and Dennis Gosler both of Worcester. He was predeceased by his two sons, Kevin McAvoy and Michael McAvoy, Jr.; and two brothers, Thomas P. McAvoy and John E. McAvoy.
He was born in Worcester, the son of the late John I. and Louis M. (Boucher) McAvoy. Mike was a proud United States Marine Corps Veteran. After his time in the military, he worked at UPS for fifteen years and then owned and operated his own stone masonry business for twenty years. He loved going to casinos, specifically Foxwoods, playing cards with his friends, golfing, watching sports, and traveling to cold or warm destinations. His friends and family would like to thank the VA nurses who assisted Michael with love and care during his time of need.
His calling hours will be on Tuesday, February 13th from 9:00am until 10:30am in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue. A funeral service will follow beginning at 10:30am in the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, 260 Cambridge Street. O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
