Obituary

It is with the heaviest of hearts that the family of Paul Aufiero, 67, of Somerville, MA announces his unexpected departure, and that he has gone home to join his wife Marcia, his brother Joe, and sister Norma.

He leaves behind his beloved son, Brian Aufiero, brother Lenny Aufiero, sister-in-laws Debbie Aufiero and Sue Aufiero, stepson Richie Alamar, stepdaughter Danielle D’alto, nieces Ashley, Kendall, Kelly, Richelle, and nephews John and Mark, his beloved cat “Buddy” (Gavin) along with countless friends and extended family.

Paul was a delivery driver for Johnny’s Food Master, and a cab driver for Somerville Green cab for many years. He could tell you where to get the best slice, sub, pastry, or meal in all of Massachusetts. Family was always surprised at the sheer volume of people Paul knew and called friend. Paul was a kind soul who lit up any room he was in, always had a smile for everyone he met, and leaves a huge void that will never be filled. He was an avid RAW (Wrestling) fan, and loved the show Heartland (if we’re being honest, he probably loved Heartland more than RAW ??).

He enjoyed word searches, crosswords, and recently became a fan of all kinds of games on his iPad. Paul had a heart of gold, and would give anyone his last dime if they asked, and even if they didn’t. He was a joker, and kept the staff at the care facility he was in stiches all the time. Paul never met an enemy. He couldn’t tell a story without cracking himself up in the telling. He loved to share current events, sports stats, and gossip through his daily phone calls with his son, his brother, and various friends.

This is probably one of the most difficult obituaries ever written, because there has never been, and never will be, another Paul Aufiero, and our hearts will always bear the unbearable weight of his earthly absence, but take comfort in the fact that he is pain free and in good company with the angels.

Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 1, 2024 at St. Peter Church, Cambridge at 10AM followed by a graveside service at Mt. Auburn Cemetery.
