CHICOPEE – Larry W. Hunter, 76, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on February 5, 2024. He was born in Greensburg, Indiana on February 9, 1947, a beloved son of the late Zelma (Talkington) Hunter and Earl Franklin Hunter. He was born and raised in and around Columbus, Indiana. Larry served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War attaining the rank of Sergeant while stationed at Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee. After which, he was employed as a truck driver for the next 40+ years, driving 18 wheelers throughout New England and was a member of the local 404 Teamsters Union. He enjoyed watching wrestling & NASCAR, camping, cooking, coin collecting, being an amateur astronomer and socializing. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Lisa M. (Sullivan) Hunter; his daughters, Shellie Roule and her husband, Jeffrey; Kelly Hunter, and Diana Hunter: his grandchildren, Kelsea Roule, Hailey Roule, Dillan Herman-Hunter, Emily Herman, Kylie Hunter and Jason Waite; his brother, Melvin “Sonny” Hunter and his wife, Jane; his brother-in-law, Carl Turner and his companion, Vicki; his nephew, Earl Turner and his wife, Vicki; his niece, Janet (Turner) Pazar; and his many cherished extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his dear sisters, Opal (Hunter) Taylor and Joyce (Hunter) Turner. His big personality and love of life will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Larry’s family would like to thank the oncology nursing staff and doctors at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield for their compassionate care of Larry during his time with them. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be followed with United States Air Force Military Honors at the conclusion of Mass on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. There are no visiting hours. His funeral arrangements are entrusted to the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
