Obituary

DAVIS, John Arthur, age 70, of Harwich, formerly of Dedham, passed away on the 6th of February, 2024 at Cape Cod Hospital following a brief illness. Born on March 6, 1953, he lived a life marked by dedication to his family.

John attended St Mary’s Grammar School in Dedham during his formative years, going on to graduate from Dedham High School with the Class of 1971. He then went on to study English at Bridgewater State College, where he graduated in 1976. He spent many years as a Facilities Manager with IBM before happily retiring to the Cape in 2015, where he spent his time soaking up as much sun at the beach as he possibly could and walking his much-loved Wire Terrier, Spenser. John was always up for an adventure – he so enjoyed traveling and exploring new destinations alongside his beloved wife of 19 years, Susan (Willis) Davis.

He also leaves behind his daughter, Kelsey Gauthier and her husband Joshua of Rehoboth, his stepdaughter Jillian Dwyer of Upton, and his stepson Wesley Dwyer and his wife Lauren of Falmouth. Though he was known by many names and nicknames throughout his life, he treasured being called “Poppy” the most. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Vivienne and Kellan Fitzgerald; Beau, Joshua Jr., and Johanna Gauthier; and Ava and Megan Dwyer.

John is also survived by his siblings – Joanne Cunningham and her husband Paul of Plymouth, Raymond Davis and his wife Maureen of Wrentham, Thomas Davis and his wife Patricia of Mansfield, Maryellen Fitzgerald and her husband Edward of Wrentham, and Paul Davis and his wife Jane of Upton. His 19 nieces and nephews will remember their Uncle Johnny fondly.

John is reunited in death with his dear first wife, Ann (Osborne) Davis, and his parents, Helen (Murphy) and Raymond Davis.

A man of honor and integrity, John's impact on those who knew him was profound, and his absence will be deeply felt. To know John was to love him.

Visiting hours will be held at the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St., Dedham on Friday, Feb. 9 from 4-7pm. His funeral will be held from the funeral home on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, Dedham at 10am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment private.
