George R. Williams, 60, of Worcester, died Sunday, February 4th, at home surrounded by his loving family. He leaves his mother, Vera V. (Rainwater) Williams; his five siblings, Marjorie Rainwater, Edward L. Williams, Donna D. (Williams) Fanion, Gail Williams Rainwater, and Russell H. Williams all of Worcester; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. He is predeceased by a brother, Arthur T. Rainwater Sr.; nephews, Arthur T. Rainwater Jr., Antonio Rainwater, and David Williams; and a sister-in-law, Diane M. (Goretti) Williams.
He was born in Atlanta, Georgia, the son of the late Ralph Williams.
As a kid, he enjoyed playing sports with siblings and with the other neighborhood kids in either the John J. Fay Funeral Home Parking on King Street or at Castle Park. Every day after school, he enjoyed going to the Ionic Avenue Boy’s Club with his best friend, David. George also enjoyed playing basketball, shooting pool, and fishing.
George attended South High Community School. After High School, he worked in the Maintenance Department at City Hospital and as a laborer for his father’s General Contracting Company.
George loved all types of music (Bad Company, The Gap Band, Jimi Hendricks, Rolling Stones, and The Sugar Hill Gang). His favorite song was “Burn Rubber” by the Gap Band. He could always make you laugh and was there when you needed him.
In 1998, he decided that he had had enough of the cold New England winters and moved to Palmetto, Georgia, where he lived until August of 2023. While living in Palmetto, he was employed as a Warehouse Supervisor for Food Depot until his illness prevented him from working.
Calling hours are Saturday, February 10th, from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, followed by his funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Worcester Boys and Girls Club, The Worcester VNA Hospice, and any Pet Shelter.
