Carolyn Mary Cenga, 82, of Centerville passed away peacefully while surrounded by her close family members after a long illness. That afternoon, Our Heavenly Father ushered her to heaven.
Her mother and her father preceded her in death. Carolyn was born and raised in Dorchester, beloved daughter to parents Dennis and Alma Ruggere.
Carolyn was loving Mother to Karen Woodring, 60 of Glendale, Arizona and Jeffrey Cenga, 44 of Centerville. An exemplary person and human being, she raised both of her children with love and devotion.
She embodied the best of qualities: unconditional love, strength of spirit, and an unending generosity that could be seen in her care for her children, mother, father, sisters, brothers, husband, and her entire family, friends and countless others.
She married Joseph A. Cenga of Quincy and moved to Centerville in 1983. In 1992, she resided with her Son until her retirement and passing. Her loss has left her family with a profound sadness.
Carolyn graduated from St. Gregory High school in Dorchester in 1960. She began her career as a administrative assistant at New England Telephone-Nynex-Bell Atlantic in Boston, retiring in 1993 after 33 years. She also worked as a ticket agent at Plymouth & Brockton St. Rwy Co beginning in 1984 in Hyannis for 29 years part time. In 2001, she was able to work alongside her Son who was a Motorcoach Operator for the company. Having passed the Civil Service exam in 2001, she began work as a Clerk 1 at the Registry of Motor Vehicles in South Yarmouth for 19 years, before retiring in 2020. Carolyn was hard working, dedicated to her crafts and she was professional in all regards. In her time away from her work, she found comfort and peace in reading books and doing crossword puzzles, and donning Dooney & Bourke handbags, of which she had many.
Her departure comes with great sorrow and a deep wound, and it is gravely felt by her friends, family and countless others who loved her deeply. As she cared greatly for the people around her, she was kind and passionate. She made a positive impact on many lives. She will be missed dearly. Until we meet again.
She is survived by the aforementioned children and also sisters Harriet Doherty, of Merritt Island, Florida and Martha Golenski, of Centerville. Grandchildren Amera Silva, of New Bedford, Hayden Sharap, and Adam Sharap, both of Glendale, Arizona, as well as nieces and nephews and great grandchildren. All of whom all loved her. We love and miss you now and forever Mom, and Sister, our beloved Carolyn.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Our Lady of the Assumption church on February 9, 2024 at 11:00am. All are welcomed to attend.
Our Angel Carolyn, who's laugh was infectious, loved the month of May. The month of our Blessed Mother, the season of renewal, growth and new beginnings. In memoriam and to honor her long life, there will also be a second Celebration of Life in remembrance of her memory in May at a date TBA later.
