Samuel Clinton “Sammy” Sumner, Jr., 73, of Tifton passed away Monday, February 5, 2024, at Tift Regional Medical Center. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 8, 2024, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Glenn Ford officiating. Mr. Sumner will be laid to rest at Tift Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 8, 2024, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of the service.
Wayne Newbern, Alan Lewis, Alan Jenkins, Terry Lupo, Ryan Lupo and Jody Hogan will serve as pallbearers.
Born July 23, 1950, in Tifton, Mr. Sumner was the son of the late Samuel Clinton “Runt” Sumner, Sr. and Betty Rose Shivers Sumner. Before retiring, he was the Plant Manager at Mastercraft in Tifton. He loved spending time with his family; and he loved restoring old cars, hunting and fishing. He was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Sumner is survived by his wife, Virginia Diane Newbern Sumner of Tifton; one son and daughter-in-law, Clint and Courtney Sumner of Tifton; one brother and sister-in-law, William David and Helen Sumner of Lenox; one sister, Audrey Rose Sumner of Tifton; and three grandchildren, Kennedy Rose Sumner, Brantley Taibi and Rayna Taibi.
