Obituary

“Grab your partner, do-si-do”…..with those words Jeannette and Roland Lapierre hit the dance floor as a square dancing couple duo. Arm-and-arm around the dance floor they went all night. Jeannette and Roland didn’t just dance one night….they danced for over a half century. 50-plus years of love and laughter, together through thick and thin, ups and downs, good times and rough patches….that was the tune called for the dance for Jeanette and Roland’s lifetime.
Jeannette Lapierre, 85, formerly of Woonsocket, died peacefully Monday February 5, 2024 at Lincolnwood Health Care Center in North Providence. She was the loving wife of the late Roland H. Lapierre. Jeannette and Roland were married on August 8, 1959 at St. Ann’s Church in Woonsocket. They shared almost 55 years mutually devoted to each other until Roland’s passing in 2014.
Born and raised in Woonsocket she was a daughter of the late Cyrille and Imelda (Champoux) Turcotte. She was a lifelong resident of the city.
Jeannette was a dedicated employee of Woonsocket Hospital/Landmark Medical Center where she worked in the Dietary Department for over 35 years. In her earlier years Jeannette worked at the former Peter Pan Ice Cream Company on Manville Road. She also worked as a cashier for Lil’General Stores.
Jeannette was a longtime member of St. Joseph’s Parish and volunteered for many activities at the church. Along with her husband Roland, Jeannette took to the dance floor as they both were very good at square dancing.
Some of Jeannette’s most memorable times were family camping trips to Holiday Acres in North Scituate. It was there that Jeannette spent over 20 years every summer having a blast.
Jeannette also enjoyed bowling, knitting and crocheting. She kept her mind sharp by faithfully doing her crossword puzzles daily. Jeannette and Roland also enjoyed participating in the activities of the Woonsocket Knights of Columbus Council # 113 and traveling to a number of memorable destinations.
Jeannette will be remembered as a devoted wife, grandmother and great-grandmother. Underneath her quiet demeanor was a lady with a heart of gold.
Jeannette is survived by her son Gary Lapierre and his wife Melanie of Pascoag and three daughters Jeanne Irons and her husband Joseph of Lincoln, Denise Brouillard and her husband Robert of North Smithfield and Diane Mason and her husband Thomas of Bellingham. She was the sister of Henry Turcotte of Burrillville, Paulette Nainteau, Pauline Thonard and Jacqueline Turcotte all of Arizona, and the late Lucille Carpentier. She was the proud grandmother of David Phaneuf, Robert Brouillard, Brandon Lapierre, Brianna Brouillard and Courtney Lapierre and great-grandmother of Maverick. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families.
All are welcome to honor and remember Jeannette at visiting hours on Saturday February 10, 2024 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket. The prayer service for Jeannette will begin at 1:00pm. Following the service an invitation will be extended for all to gather with the family in celebration of Jeannette’s life. Jeannette will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband Roland at St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery in Bellingham with a private service.
