Richard J. Sanzi, 89, of Dorr Drive, Chepachet, passed away peacefully on Saturday February 3rd in his home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Gail B. (Wood) Sanzi, happily married for 67 years.
A son of the late Eugene N. and Helen M. (Conlon) Sanzi. He had lived in Chepachet for 60 years previously born and raised in Providence, RI. He was a US Navy veteran serving during the cold war.
Richard loved spending his time at the beach and camping with his family and friends. He was an avid Boston sports fan and was a dedicated Glocester Little League Baseball and Hockey Coach for his own sons and many to follow. His passion was spending time up at Papa Gene’s “Cabin in the woods” and you could always find him by the lake, taking care of the property or washing his camper.
Richard was an Optical Supervisor for Universal Optical for 35 years before retiring. After retiring, he was a van driver for the Town of Glocester Senior transportation.
Besides his wife he leaves his children, Eugene N. (Robin) Sanzi of Putnam, CT, Richard J. (Vicky) Sanzi of Springfield, TN, Thomas P. Sanzi of Chepachet, Frank J. (Kathy) Sanzi of Johnston, Cheryl Ann (Hector) Sanzi-Hernandez of Denton, TX and Gail B. Sanzi of Chepachet. He is the grandfather of Angela Sanzi, Richard Sanzi, III, Dr. Eugene Sanzi, Alicia Sanzi, Kaila Church, Rachel Sanzi, Tatianna Hernandez, KFD Capt. Hector Hernandez, Jacob Sanzi, William McGuire, and Samantha Hernandez. He is the great-grandfather of Raelyn, Ethan, Alainn, and Hayden. He is the brother of Dorothy Dowling of Coventry. He was the brother of the late Eugene Sanzi, Jr., Walter Sanzi, Mary Oliver, Helen Capron, and Margaret Sanzi.
Visitation will be held in the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville on Thursday, February 8, 2024 from 4pm to 7pm.
Funeral Friday at 8:45am from the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Greenville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be in St. Eugene Church, 1251 Putnam Pike, Chepachet on Friday, February 9, 2024 at 10am. Burial will be in Acotes Hill Cemetery, Chepachet.
