Obituary

Susan Lynn Reams (1944–2024)

Susan Lynn Reams passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, after a brief battle with cancer. Susan had a profound impact on the lives of so many family members, friends, coworkers, partners in faith, and likely some strangers too. She will certainly be remembered for her love, mentorship, and endless generosity.

Daughter to Everett and Margret Mayberry, Susan was destined for adventure. While she was born in Fresno, CA, the family soon relocated to Maracaibo, Venezuela where Everett was an Engineer for Standard Oil. She split her time between the Oil-Camps and Bording Schools before attending Webber International University in Florida.

After Webber, the adventure continued! First taking her to Las Vegas where she worked at the Stardust Hotel, followed by stays in San Jose, CA, Anchorage, AK, and then back to California where she worked for Tejon Ranches of Bakersfield. In 1993 she made a final move to Prosser, WA where she accepted a new position with Ste Michelle Wine Estates as the Human Resources Manager. With several family members in tow, she quickly established herself as a leader both professionally and in the community. She excelled professionally and eventually retired as the Vice President of HR and EHSS.

Even after retirement she continued to have an impact on the community through her continued acts of service and an unwavering commitment to Prosser Memorial Hospital as a long time Board Commissioner. In her time on the Board, she chaired the Joint Conference Committee and was an integral part of the planning and execution of the new hospital.

Susan will always be remembered for her larger-than-life personality, passion for helping all, storytelling, adventuring with family, business acumen, kind heart, and of course as a fashion icon.

We could not have asked for a better Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Friend.

Susan is survived by: Daughter Heidi DeVriend and Son in Law Daniel DeVriend, Son Jeremey Russell and Daughter in Law Kalissa Russell, Daughter Whitney Reams, and Daughter Sondra Reams. She is also survived by several Grandchildren: Trevor Day and his Wife Shannen Day, Mason DeVriend and his partner Becca Thornton, Riley DeVriend, Anthony Reams, Ellis Russell, Annorah Russell, Stella Russel, CJ Kima, Michael Kima, and Great Grandchildren: Declan Day, Raegan DeVriend, Timothy Anderson, and Daniel Anderson.
