Obituary

Brian S. Carroll, 77, of Northfield, passed away on Tuesday January 23rd, 2024, with his loved ones by his side. He leaves his partner Susan Armstrong of Northfield; daughter Heather Carroll-Wiggin and her husband, Sam Wiggin of New Boston, NH; son Colin Carroll and his wife, Nancy Clark of New Ipswich, NH; sister Maureen Quinn and her husband, Edward of Worcester; grandson Wyatt Wiggin; and two nieces Bridget and Meaghan Quinn.

He was born in Worcester and the son of Joseph and Madeline (Wrenn) Carroll. A graduate of South High School, Worcester State College, and a member of the United States Marine Corps serving in the Vietnam war. He worked for National Grid for over 40 years and was a proud member of Local 330 Brotherhood of Utility workers.

Brian loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing, and was an avid sportsman who enjoyed skiing, sailing and working with his beloved hunting dogs over the years. His true passion was racing vintage motorcycles and sidecars. Brian raced with his team Mach1 Racing for over 27 years and raced competitively in the US, Canada, and Australia. He was inducted into the United States Classic Racing Association’s Hall of Fame in 2018.

His calling hours will be held on Friday, February 9th from 10:00am until 11:30am in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue. A brief funeral service will follow beginning at 11:30am in the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, 260 Cambridge Street. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Injured Riders Fund at Karen Hornbecker Memorial Fund, 35 Granite St. Foxboro, MA 02035 or Franklin County Regional Dog Shelter, 10 Sandy Lane, Turners Falls, MA 01376.
