Teresa Borba Carlos, 84, of Lowell, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at her home in Lowell surrounded by her family after a long battle with cancer and dementia. She was the beloved wife of Antonio V. Carlos in which they enjoyed 58 years of marriage.
A daughter of the late Antonio Machado Borba and Maria Amaral Borba, she was born May 11, 1939, in Sao Jorge, Azores, Portugal, emigrating to the United States in 1963, settling in the Back Central section of Lowell with her sisters. In 1966 she married Antonio and both were very active and devoted members of St. Anthony Church.
Her faith, family and hard work were the pillars of Teresa’s life. Spending time with her family and friends, cooking, baking, gardening and making people laugh was what she enjoyed most. Always willing to volunteer and help with festivals and events at the Holy Ghost Society Park which was especially dear to her heart since arriving in Lowell.
Teresa worked for Wang Labs in Lowell and Tewksbury for many years and then later for Qualtronics in Lowell before retiring.
Her survivors include her son, David Carlos and his fiancee Lynn Scanlon of Lowell whom cared for Teresa passionately in her final days. She is also survived by her sisters, Maria D. Silveira, her late husband, Jose Eleuterio Silveira of the Azores, Serafina Morais and her husband, Julio, of the Azores, Fatima and her husband Isalino Borba of Lowell, Christina Dias and her husband Jose of the Azores. She is also survived by her brother, John Borba of Lowell and his late wife, Patricia. In addition to her many nieces and nephews, Teresa is survived by her beloved God son, Joe Silveira and his wife, Paula and their children, of the Azores.
You are welcome to attend her visitation and funeral on Monday, February 5 from 8:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. at the McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell, MA. Her Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Anthony Church, 893 Central Street, Lowell, MA at 11 a.m. Procession will follow for burial at St. Patrick Cemetery in Lowell.
