Anthony J. Martins, 92, of New Bedford passed away Wednesday January 31, 2024 after a period of declining health. He was the husband of the late Marie C. (DeAndrade) Martins.
Born in New Rochelle, New York, the son of the late Joseph and Rose (Pina) Martins, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
Anthony was formerly employed as a tire builder at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company until his retirement. He had also been the owner of the fishing vessel Sea Lance.
He was a dedicated family man who was to his devoted children and grandchildren. In his younger days, he was a Golden Gloves boxer and played semi-professional football for the James P. Murphy Club.
He is survived by his children, Anthony J. Martins, Jr. and Geraldine Souza; his sister, Joanne Martins; nine grandchildren; a great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, John J. Martins, and his brother, John Santos.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday February 6th at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM.
